One day before the start of the agilityclass we got a message from the dogclub. We looked such a long time forward to start with agility and finally Emma was even more than 1 years old, the age she was allowed to enter the agilitygroup. So excited we planned it all till this week. And than the phonecall. "The agilitygroup won't start because off lack off interest, would you like to do the rally-O instead?" The woman means well but we already did the Rally-O course and succeeded pretty well. Really dissapointed about this unexpected phonecall I look at Emma. She has no idea and waggles her tail.

Immediatly I start with searching in the region, there must be another place we can do what we want. At least do what I want, don't know if Emma will like it but we'll see.

 

The other citys with dogclubs haven't got an agilitytraining. In our own little town has recently started a new dogtrainingcentre and I call the person who's taking care of the lessons. She tells me she will start next week with advertising for a new agility-beginnerscourse. She just got financing from the community and an EU-project to build a brand new agility training area and already has one group training. Me and litlle Emma are more than welcome.

 

And what is our luck: the new agilityplan and dogtrainingcenter will be about 250m from our house, free to use everyday for members. Only problem: have to wait a bit till we can start there. In the meantime we have our own playground at home:

 

 

 

The boss thought it would be a nice idea to build something to warm the muscles. We have heating in the house on electricity and that seems to be on goldprices these days. So it was just fun to build a chimney etc to our new fireplace, knowing we would earn it back in no time. Emma is the last to complain, we can't get her from the warming area. :-)

In the meantime they enjoy the springweather and the bones they found by themselfes in the forest:

Emma can jump. We know that fact already. She proofed time after time that no obstacle was to high to keep her away from us.

The end of march will be the beginning of an agility-jumpingcourse this spring. Hope we will enjoy this new sport. I think it is important to do something else besides the showing, Emma, kooikerhondjes can do and enjoy so much more. And Emma has entered puberty for full, so a little training couldn't do any harm in my humble opinion.

 

Last weekend was it a showtime again in Malmö. Emma showed directions:

 

Many kooikers in the ring, always nice to see and meet, and Emma ended up on the 3th place with an Excellent. It felt almost strange after all the winnings but we were proud on the result. You never know what to expect on a show. The last show in Gotenburg were Emma became 3th ánd got a CAC was the same winning bitch today 'only Good' and was placed last. The judge is very important ;-)

 

Well, at least we could go home 'early' today. I'm having big doubts about entering Emma in a show in april or beginning of may before the worldshow. She is really shedding her coat right know and maybe it is more fun to only focus on agility and a dirty dog...

 

Evening before the show, our camper parked:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We started our camper to drive to Norway. Again. Now we had Oslo-Gardermoen as destination. The Letohallen was the this weekend the playground for thousends of dogs.

 

And we didn't make the trip without results. I think the new camper "the Emmobile" is paying of on our little prinses and she acts like one in the showring.

 

The first day we met a judge who assured me he had never seen such a beautiful Kooikerhondje. Sadly he only met Kooikerhondjes with negative/shy behaviour in the past. He was gladly surprised that Emma had no problem at all with his touching, checking and petting her. She reacted happy and loved to show herself in the ring.

Emma became best junior, got CAC (points for the national championship) and ended up best of breed: BOB.

 

No problem to wait this time till the finals. We had to stay overnight anyway for the show the next day.

First the choice for the Best Junior in Show: from all the junior winners (like Emma) would be 4 dogs chosen. The same judge as we had this morning. 48 Juniordogs walking in the ring of honour. Chaos and luckaly the judge had seen them all before we entered the ring. We got shortlisted and 20 dogs were still competing. Because Kooikerhondjes are not so well known among judges they almost never get a placing with the first four. The judge must be very sure of his judgement and willing to take a risk. So we were very surprised ánd happy that we became the 3th place! Of 48 dogs!

After this winning we waited for the groupfinal. All breeds have one winner. (today Emma for the Kooikerhondje). The breeds are divided in their own breedgroup. Kooikerhondjes are in group 8 (there are 10 groups) with other water-huntingdogs, spaniels and retrievers.

Emma had to compete with all the other winners of her group. She got placed 3th again! Superscore!

 

The next day was almost the same as the first one. Best Junior again with CAC and BOB. The Best in Show junior was different, over 60 juniors and she wasn't a winner this time. (Another judge) No problem, we were happy as it was and Emma did surprisingly well after a few long days in the arena. The groupfinal was first judged outside the ring of honour because of the lack of time. Shortlisting took place there and only four were permitted to enter the ring of honour. Emma too!

We got the 3th placing, again!! I was so proud of our little critter, she did it all the way and her behaviour was very well. Two days nice advertisement for the Kooikerhondje :-)

 

We got a lot of ribbons, food from the sponsor and a bag filled with tin cups on marble feet. Don't know what we do with it all, have to look out for a room to fill with all the ribbons. Offcourse we got something for Emma she really likes (besides the food, nothing goes above something eatable in her opinion). She choose a kind of rat to play with. And she has not seperated from it since we left Oslo. She really likes this thing.

We are involved in the organisation of the iceskatingclub Östra Värmlands Is. Keeping the tracks beautiful, smooth and snowfree is the job of a group volunteers. Snow, rain, sun and high temperatures made the ice outside the track a little bit rough and on the the track perfect. We wanted to check it out and brought Emma with us. She loves going on the ice, she runs and tries to say hi to everybody. I really don't like that. I imagine the most horrible scene's with skates in combination with Emma's little paws, she running up to someone etc. So sometimes she is forced to walk on the leash. Yeah I know, she has that age now, the 'bananas-in-the-ears-fase'. A bit strickter in training doesn't take away the banana's....yet.

 

At a few places was a dubble, very thin, layer. Almost floating on the ice, thin like a crystal sugar topping. She just loves to play with the pieces, I tried to film a bit:

 

It looks very slippery and this part was, most of the time Emma had amazingly good grip on the ice.

 

At the start we met a lady with a dog, they skated every day the 18km: Emma just had played with the dog and is not so happy with Will ending it.

I got a really nice present for my birthday: Emma won at the international show in Bø, Telemark Norway arranged by the kennelklub Norway. Best in Race: best of all participating Kooikers.

Her first BIR-title on an int. show. The judge wanted to give us a CACIT but the secretary in the ring saw it right: Emma is to young, so she got the CAC. Dogs have to be over 15 months to get the CACIT, Emma is only 12 months. So we have to wait a bit...

At the show we met very nice Kooikerpeople and we liked the atmosphere. After the excitement of winning we realized it was only 9.30 and we had to wait till 15.00 for the groupfinal. Emma did really fine, in our mobile-home and at the show.

We stopped at a place Emma could run a little and when we wanted to take this picture a car stopped. We had to do her on a leash because she wanted to check this out. A man did come out and asked us if Emma was a bitch. "Yes?"

He said to his wife that "it is no problem, she is a bitch!" Immediatly the women came out of the car with their...kooiker! They told us they came by on the road and saw Emma playing. They thought it was so special to meet an other Kooikerhondje (there ar not that many in Norway) The meet and greet was very playful.

When we picked Emma up to live with us we were treated with a lots of stuff to have the best possible start with our new puppy. Blankets, food, toys, chewingmaterial (very important) books etc etc. One the items was a little giraffe. Smell from the sisters and mom on it. The giraffe has traveled the past year a lot. In Sweden to different city's, two times to Holland, Danmark, Germany. It was always accompanying Emma. And it will follow us probably till Norway this weekend also. It is the only teddybear she pickes out every time.

I tried to lure Emma into a Valentinepicture. I tried to get her sitting in front of me, have a little red heart on her nose and look charming. Emma thought the snow was to akward to sit in, hearts on noses are a no-go and tried to charm me running and playing with the little heart. She got me....

The show in Eindhoven went really well. We met some very nice kooikerpeople and ended up on 1th place in Emma's class.

To go to the Netherlands means travel and visiting friends this time. Emma likes to join us in the car and gives no bother at all.

 

 

Was hilarious to try to get the girls standing 'pretty' for the picture.... *shame*

At all the places we stayed she was more then welcome to join us and she presented herself really well. Luckaly she has no problem entertaining herself and sleep in strange environment. Even in Holland we uplived a rare fenomenon, it snowed!! Huge trafficjam followed on 2 cm fresh snow but the Dutch landscape became enchanting in one day!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Off course Emma got presents:

Level 2 and 3 games from Nina Ottosson. It is the idea that the dog puzzles its way through untill it has got out all the goodies. Emma looked really interested when I was preparing the items and couldn't wait to puzzle all the goodies out of it.

Difference with our Springer Spaniel Boogie: she tried to chew the wooden items into pieces to reach the food. Emma really looks for the solution with moving and lifting.
